Due to the overwhelming success of “In The Bedroom,” our recently produced series of One Act plays, Studio C Artists is proud to announce our next collection of original works: “In The Dining Room”. There will be ten one-acts written, directed, and performed around a common theme (to make a cohesive show) – this time a dining room table rather than a bed. Everyone will have the opportunity to participate, but right now we’re putting out a call for writers. (And not to worry – professional writers are encouraged to participate, but prior experience as a writer is not necessary. Anyone who thinks they’d be good at writing a short play should apply.)
Anyone wishing to submit must send in a writing sample as well as three scenarios by the deadline. The writing samples should be no more than 3 pages (something you’ve already written is perfect – and it does not need to be a complete piece, i.e., 3 pages out of a full script is fine). (pdf format is preferred) The scenarios should involve anything that could take place in a dining room, around a dining room table. Please remember to keep things simple, as we are limited in the size of our stage. No more than 2-4 characters per piece – and props and other elements are kept to a bare minimum. The story is key. The scenarios should be limited to one paragraph and include the amount of characters and what the story is about. They can be either comedies or dramas, your choice.
Here are the details:
- 10 writers will be chosen
- Please provide a writing sample
- Please also send us 3 different scenarios of plays that you would like to write.
- Submissions are
due by Friday, 5/24 @ 5PM– deadline extended to Tuesday, June 4th.
- Email writing samples to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Writers will be chosen based upon the originality or their scenarios along with the competency of their writing sample.
If chosen, there is a mandatory Writers’ Meeting on Thursday, June 6th @ 6PM at Studio C Artists, 6448 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90038.
All writers will retain the copy rights to their play, but will receive no compensation other than the production of their play. Feel free to pass along this information to anyone you think might be interested – and good luck!
